Welcome to Arts Express

Arts Express is a visual arts education charity that is dedicated to making the thrill and joy of creating a work of art available to everyone.

We take visual art materials and equipment into the community and engage all ages in making art. For example we run a stone carving festival annually in Peckham, South London, where anyone can use carving tools to make a sculpture. We run workshops in schools, community centres, cultural institutions and public events that give people the opportunity to try their hand at a range of different
activities including stone carving, wood carving, printing, painting, drawing, mosaics and ceramics, amongst others.

We also undertake public art commissions where these involve the community including murals, mosaics, sculpture and sculptural street or park furniture and play features.

In addition we run evening classes from our studio in Kennington.

Upcoming Events

Arts Express runs an extensive programme of events and projects in the community that are designed to bring the community together in a shared activity, provide an opportunity for people to express themselves creatively and leave with a sense of pride and achievement at having gone beyond their technical, creative or perceived limits.

Please note the minimum age for evening classes and Saturday workshops is 16.

NEWS OF OTHER PROJECT
As well as our public events and class, we also bring news of our other projects in the community:

Brabazon Green, Poplar Sculpture project

After a series of workshops with youth from the local community a series of play feature/sculptures have been carved and installed on the Green to the delight of all.

Excursions in Paint 2009
This project, tutored by Chloe Cheese, has enabled budding over 60s artists from South London to go on trips into the countryside to paint directly from landscape. No previous experience is required and we run indoor sessions before the main trip in the summer to teach painting techniques. The recruiting has begun for this year's participants and we hope to enjoy the same success as last year.

Haymerle School Art Club
Heather Marin is running the Autumn term of Art Club for Haymerle Primary School for Special Needs in Peckham making recycled junk Angel and Dove mobiles.

Highshore School Art Club
A special educational needs secondary school in Peckham. Following on from a series of print workshops with Heather Martin we are extremely pleased to announce 7 stencil screen prints onto paper made by the children at this club are to be hung in one of the meeting rooms of the international law firm, Eversheds.

Meanwhile the children in the latter half of the Autumn term have been making a mosaic piece for the school with Damion Viney.

Surrey Docks Farm

Artists Chloe Cheese and Florence Shaw have been doing screen printing with Surrey Docks Farm users to make images for signage to illustrate the different areas of the farm.

Well London Cossall Esate

This intergenerational project on the Cossall Estate in Peckham has lead to the creation of two works of public art for the Estate - a mosaic mural and a framed felt piece.

As you can see Arts Express operates a full programme of events and projects. If you would like to support our work in other ways we are always recruiting volunteers and would be delighted to hear from anyone who has time to spare for our volunteer programme. We also run a Friends of Arts Express scheme, for £15 we offer an annual newsletter, invitation to our renowned AGMs with guest speaker and discounts on classes.
